I got another mod for my sportsman
#1
Well....I like using tank saddle bags on the ATV's. That way you have stuff right there in front of you, especially a bottle of water or gatorade, etc. But as everyone knows, the shifter is in the way on the right side....
So....I ordered a new lever...just the metal part. I picked up some steel rod....I'm going to cut the new lever and extend it. I will probably extend it out and then curve it back in some, enough to give room for the tank saddlebag on that side. Should be an easy mod. It'll take away a little leverage on the shifter, but not much....I'll post some pics when completed....
when i say 'cut', i mean the lower portion that is horizontal....extend it out....come up and then a slight bend about half way up leaning it back towards me....I'll see ...

sounds like you have your work cut out for yourself dave. I am looking for a rack bag for the rear of my rig and want a black one that is sort of contoured to the shape of the rack. I don't want to go broke over it but just want something I can use for ride trips. got any ideas.

I've got a really nice one from ATVSTUFF.com. It's black, perfectly formed for the rear rack, has an outer flap that is really useful in the mud, has ridgid sides so it holds its shape. A divider inside that is movable on velcro. I pack a small cooler that can hold a twelvepack on ice on one side and clothes, tools etc on the other. It has pockets on the outside, will hold a small compressor, gps, cell phone, tools, etc and it's all dry when i get outta the woods. check it out....good luck. Harry

Elkbow, I bought both the front a dnrear bags just like this at a local fleet farm for less each than that opening bid! Good thing, cause the first trip out with the larger bag the straps tore right off at the stitches! I plan to get it fixed, bought I wasn't very impressed.

I bought a plastic hard box/seat combo for my sp last year, was a lot of money, but I like how comfy it is as a back rest, and the center works nicely as a cooler. It also keeps my gear a dry! The soft bags are nice, but didn't keep gear dry when it rained. It helped to spray them down with waterproof/silicone camping spray and the mud came off better at the car wash too, but the extra money for the plastic
hard box was worth it for me. Also you can put a 2 gallon can of gas in each arm rest if you want. I am looking for a better way to haul gas than I did last year-see pics-I had small gas cans strapped to my front rack, and I'd like to keep my rear rack box for other gear, anyone have any good Ideas? I saw this neat new rear rack storage box somewhere that had a slot in the sides where you could attach a gas can to the side of it like a saddle bag... forgot where i saw it.... Darn. Maybe I'll figure out a way to attach gas cans to the sides of my current rack box...???

You usually get what you pay for. I did get a really nice bag for my KLR650 for $59 + shipping, awesome bag, good straps, quick release buckles, and a waterproof cover. Has a strap to carry it like a shoulder bag...would probably work for the ATV also.
I like hard cases for water protection, but not for stuffing full of stuff unless you get a big one, then they get in the way. I can't put a bag on the rear, thats where my dog rides when we go out and I pack elk, deer, antelope, etc. meat on there.... Guess I could buy a lock and ride case, then can put it on when I don't take the dog....
