ok I need some scrambler expert advise!!!!!
#1
one of the guys I work with lost his reverse this morning on his 96 scrambler 400. he said that it has been sort or grinding/clicking when he puts it in reverse then would slam into reverse and has been that way for awhile I guess. he said this morning it finally threw up the white flag and gave up on him, what does he need to do to fix this. is it just the reverse gear or what. he wants to sort of get an idea, has anyone had this happen to theirs?

sounds like his linkage might have been out of adjustment for some time. he might get lucky and just be able to adjust it.
also it wount engage properly if the motor is revving too high. he could also idle it down and see if it will go into gear.
hope he didnt break anything internal. it might cost some good bucks to fix. if he did break something internal, tell him to keep an eye on ebay. theres always transmissions on there for sale.
hope this helps

sounds to me that he broke off the three dogs off the reverse gear. This will cost around $60 to fix if you doit yourself. Just be hopefull you did not damage the shift fork . That is around $120. It is always important to make shore the bike is idling low .
