4x4 probs on 03 600
#1
I know there are 100 threads on 4 wheel drive not engaging but i couldn't find one on my specific problem. I was riding in deep snow today and upon taking off slow the 4x4 doesn't engage, i stop again and take off its turns on but it seems the plates are slipping at light to moderate throttle. They engage intermittantly. When i'm really goosin it, and the differential is under high torque the front wheels stay engaged. and o yeah a couple of times the awd light was flickering. Do any of you guys have an idea of what the problem could be? Thanks a lot, Tom.
I forgot to mention the fluid looks good.

Sounds quite normal. I have a Scrambler 4x4 & when taking off on ice/snow/mud slow it does the same thing. Remember, the way the 4by works on Polaris is only if the rear spins 20% faster than the front, so under light throttle the rears might not quite be spinning 20% faster & even if they are, at light & slow throttle the engagement is VERY obvious. Now when you hammer on it the rear spins so fast & the front engages so fast that it's not nearly as noticable.

i hope its normal but it just started happening and usually it engages flawlessly without me even knowing it. The tires engage much greater than th 20% of a wheel turn. More like 3 whole wheel turns. Maybe the plates aren't getting enough charge?
I am a little paranoid since i already had to replace a whole new front diff that cost 1000 bucks! (That was due to low level and water contaminated fluid...the whole inside was blown to pieces).

tpalm5, this is not normal. the over riding hub engages without any real major slipping on the rear wheels. it should engage at any speed wether taking off slow or hammering it. and your awd shouldn't be blinking. sounds like you could have an electrical problem some where.
you may have a coil problem in the front gearcase, this can cause the 3 or more turns to engage. how long was it since it was replaced?

Oohh, 3 turns before engagement?? thats definately not normal. When you said light throttle I sure didn't think that the rears would spin that much before the front hooked. I think you better check the hub fluid asap.
