stuck in reverse

2000 polaris 500 sportsman all stock
hello,
My quad is stuck in reverse, any ideas. It has 700 miles on it, not rode hard and well maintained. Should I disconnect the shift rods. Will that tell me if it's the tranny or the box that houses the gear shift? I rode it for a bit, stopped for 30 mins and it won't shift out of reverse. Any ideas would be great.
thank you,
john from michigan

Happened to my 2004 500HO as well but I was stuck in high forward. I just took the top of the gear shift box and lever off and put it right back on. Works great now. When I say I took it off and put it right back that is just what I did...lift it up about 3 inches and put it back down. That was it.
Good luck.
Good luck.
