Sportsman 800 accessories?
#1
Was told I should post this in the Polaris forum....so here it is :-)
After MUCH studying, rifling through forums, and reading tons of reviews, I've decided to get a Polaris Sportsman 800. (The others were the Grizzly 660, Brute Force, and (King Quad?)...Didn't here much about the KQ, and I sifted through everyones +'s and -'s and chose the Polaris). I'm going on thursday to pick it up, and I was wondering what, if any, upgrades I should consider buying first above all others? I was thinking about a winch as my top-priority. I get snow up here in Mass, so I thought about a plow, but that can wait till next winter...I heard the structural integrity of the Polaris is quite good, so is a bumper or other guards neccessary? Any other suggestions would be good...Thanks for any help :-)

I would put the winch on, and then the Polaris front Brushguard and rear tube bumper. If you are going to do winter riding and plowing eventually, you'll want the lock and ride windshield, as you can remove it and put it on quick and it works quite well. From there is up to you....If you look at my signature/profile below, you will see what I have on my '05 700 EFI. Heated grips are nice also, even though it doesn't get that cold here in New Mexico, it gets cold enough to freeze your hands. If you want to see a pic with everything installed, look here:

Hey Dave, What brand of plow kit is that??? Is it a steel or plastic blade? Looks like it fits really nice, is it easy to take on and off? I plan on getting a plow for next winter, but not sure if I want to spend the $450.00 for the polaris Glacier plow. Thanks, Dan.

a BIG congrats on your purchase Guitarist! welcome to the forum- you're in the right place!
i would definately suggest a Warn 2.5 or 3.0 winch for MA riding. you'll need it when you see Honda's stuck in the mud who need your help! LOL! (j/k)
i have owned both Moose and now the Glacier plows. it's a toss-up for me. i like the SUPER ease of hook-up of the Glacier but the blade height is lower than that of the Moose. the skids are whimpy to.
the Moose looks and performs like a Fisher! the only drawback is the somewhat difficulty lineing-up the holes for the 2 pins. the Moose blade hieght, weight, durability, and overall performance is second to none.
that black wrikle coated brush guard sure has caught me eye. i'm just concerned about adding any more weight to an already heavy machine. the "fun factor" is just right and i don't want to skrew it up by adding more weight.
good luck and again WELCOME to the BEST forum on the net!

check out my gallery, I would suggest getting a winch but now recommend Ramsey because of the limited lifetime warranty, the warn winches only have a one year warranty. as far as a plow goes go with the polaris glacier plow system with the 60" blade. the problem with a 48" blade is that the path being plowed isn't very wide and the snow falls back into the path to be ran over my the tires packing it down. a 60" blade plows a path wide enough that the snow won't fall back into the path for the tires to pack it down.
other accessories I would recommend would be the polaris hand guards, the lock n ride windshield and maybe front/rear bumpers. it all adds up though. I have had to make all my purchases little by little. the ITP bigfoot kits are always a nice tough too and really change the overall looks of the quad.
why did you choose the 800 over like the 700, for what most people want to do with their quad the 700 seems to be enough and with the money you would save you could put it towards accessories.

hey Guitarist just to let you know you can go to www.rcsoffroad.com and get plow/winch packages at a good price. they offer warn kits but the price is still good. they have the warn 2.5ci winches for $304 with free shipping right now
Or www.lesteratv.com has the Ramsey 2500LB. winches for $279 with free shipping. I bought my ITP bigfoot kit from Lester's and their customer service and sales is 100% outstanding. Call and talk to Melanie at lester's and let her know that David Krueger referred you.
