Default 450r vs. Yammy?

A buddy of mine says he is buying a new YFZ. I asked him why not the 450r and he said it is slow. He tells me that the Yammy will kick the crap out of the Honda. Is this true? Does anyone know for sure, cause I new some ammo for the next time I'm talking to him to shut his mouth, he is constantly bashing Honda and my Rincon......Thanks for your opinions and help!

The Yamaha has a pretty good "hit" in the middle, so I think that gives people the impression of "fastness". Stock for stock, I really do think the Yamaha is faster, but the modded bikes are about equal. I was at Glamis drags a few weeks ago, and there was a Honda that was beating EVERYTHING.

One of the magazines did an article about a desert race team that was testing different gear ratios combinations. In the end, the ratios they chose for desert had the Honda ahead by 1 mph. Now 1 mph doesn't sound like much, but in a long desert endurance race like Baja, that could put you ahead by 40 miles or so by the time you reach the finish line.

the yfz might be a hair faster ,but have you ridden one? its the most uncomfortable thing ive ever ridden. the honda is faster off the line, better brakes, better shocks, and 2006 is supposed to have elrc. start from what ive been hearing . so if you want to ride all day or just for an hour its up to you (or him) i stick to riding red. the fastest bikes ive seen at the drags are trx470,480r's, that and the big boy raptors.

Get the honda for a little cheaper and put the hrc kit in with the money you save and you will easily beat the yami. I just bought mine and the thing rides waaaay better and feels alot more comfortable than the yfz450. It just has that honda feel and the kick start is soooo easy.

Bottom line is when it comes to quads like the 450's its mainly the RIDER. Don't matter how fast it is, if you can ride you can hang.

I was in Glamis on my '05 TRX450R. The quad is bone stock with the exception of ITP Sand Star tires. I was racing an '05 YZF450 that had a Yoshimura pipe and had been jetted and set up by his dealer. He also had ITP Sand Star tires. I beat him up Olds every time. Why???
Rider.
If you can ride your Honda, you will win. If you can ride your Yammy, you will win.
The big difference will be at the end of the day. The Yamaha will beat you to death. It's very stiff. The Honda is plush and has a nicer seat. To me, the Yamaha also felt a little nervous at speed, but again, it's all rider preference.
I now have my HRC kit, I just need to put it in. Looks like the beginin' of some grinnin'.
