05 700EFI FUEL PUMP
#1
I rode my four wheeler yesterday for about 25 miles and came back home and filled up with gas and when filling there was a little steam that came out of the tank. There has always been a little steam that would come out since it was new. I went out and rode another 20 or so miles and about my last 10 minutes of riding the rpm's started to jump around a little. Shut it off and turned it back on and my pump cycled as I turned it on, but it didn't sound like it normally does. Sounded like maybe it was vapor locked and the pump made a funny sound. I repeated this a couple of times with the same results. Took it back home and blew in tank and it was pretty warm. I filled it with cold fuel and then stuck my finger in tank and the fuel was still warm. I waited awhile for it to cool down and tried it again and it worked fine. I let it sit all night and went out this morning and tried it and it was normal. I took a flashlight and looked into tank and there was alot of gold metal fillings in tank. I talked with my dealer this morning because I thought maybe there was not enough heat tape around gas tank or fuel pump was bad. The dealer told me that if there was fillings in the tank then the fuel pump was coming apart and told me that if you have a fuel pump that is malfunctioning that it will make your fuel hot, so he told me to bring it in right away. I have about 95 hours on machine and about 800 miles. Just wanted to let you guys know, so you can keep an eye on your machines. I'll let you know what I find out.

My dealer is working on it today and I explained everything that the wheeler is was doing when I dropped it off and he asked me if it still ran and I told him that it did. He told me that he would look at it, but Polaris may not authorize him to fix it if it still runs and if he can't find anything wrong with it. I am pretty machanically inclined and I told him that there was something wrong with the fuel pump and asked him to explain why there would be metal filings in the gas tank and he couldn't tell me. I asked him why the fuel would be getting so hot and making a high pitched sound and he didn't know. Talked to him later and he said that he had a used EFI in for service and that unit had some metal filings in that tank too. He said that he let the unit run for two hours and was trying to replicate the higher pitched sound the fuel pump was making for me, but haven't had any luck. I told him that it had a full tank of gas and to dump out about 3 gallons and let it run for two more hours and it would do it for him.
Does anyone else that have the efi have any gold filings in their tank. I could live with it if that's all it was is filings in the tank due to normal wear, but the other day when riding I had two bars left on my fuel guage and the fuel was so hot that I added about 3 gallons of cold fuel and it was still warm after that. This isn't be normal for the fuel to get that hot or for the fuel pump to make a high pitched sound when pumping. I am asking you guys am I off on my assessment that I think something is wrong. Please let me know.
