Xplorer 400 making funny sounds

This just started happening.
Then you are giving the quad gas it makes a rhythmic clunking sound. kinda loud. But only when you're on the gas. if i let off it stops.
It doesn't sound like it's something from the motor though.
One of my friends said his sled made this sound when the belt was going bad.
Any ideas?

piston slapping normally has a little higher pitch tinging sound. this or more like a clunk. it sounds heavier then that.
Doesn't the chain normally make noise power on or power off because it's always spinning around.
