well, I got the 400, electric start and reverse made it happen ...but the 450 was a lil more money, and I was told it had to be rebuilt? and it acts like a 2 stroke?...o well...but yea, about the 400....with in 15 minutes of ridin time in a park, I managed to roll it, and when I was doing 360's on the ice, tires caught and flipped...lol...so yea, first day it got its daily beating, and it took it like a champ!... but I posted pics on my profile...it still looks new ....anyone wanna go racin or to bad lands this summer?...let me know!

NOTHING WRONG WITH A 400 EX!!!! Conratulations and it sounds like a good break in day! Be Careful!
Just back from Lil Sahara Oklahoma where my Big (325+) Buddy came w/ in an inch of srewing up and sinking his 650 Parie in a small frikin puddle...slope e-z then drop.....I was cracking up at the freak puddle and him working fast and furious not to get all the way wet. Pi$$ed him off so bad that he laughed and laughed all the way home tonight.
Im on my second 400EX and really like it. Could use a touch more H.P. in the powder soft sand but all-n-all
a great bike...Heck it would work as a rental there so forgiving.
Enjoy.

Guess I better get in this one before the zuki and yami guys get started
You made a good choice and the 450's are not for everyone, plus if you want more power is to be had in many ways on the 400ex, but its not "overpowering" or finicky at all in stock form, and will run almost forever if you take decent care of it.
Now just stop flippin it and keep the rubber side down

Have you cleaned the air filter yet?
Sounds like it could be that its a little rich on the carb from a restricted filter.
After I wrote the above I realized that this is a brand new machine. You could bring it in, but if its just a dirty filter they will most likely charge you.
Also make sure you didnt accidently put the choke on cause that will do it also.

Congrats on the new EX. It is a proven bike, and I really don't think you can go wrong with any of the 400+cc sportquads. After all, it's all about havin' fun, right?
