You asked this question last week! Same topic
It sounds like you bought the wrong muffler. The standard HMF has removable quiet core and SA inserts. The QS1 does not, it is quiet and can not be made louder without ruining it.
People that are more concerned about sound then power always baffle me. I understand having to make it quiet to meet sound regulations, but you want it louder even though you will see no performance gains?
Paint a muffler? That would have to be some very high temp paint, I have never seen a paint hold up on an exhaust. Ceramic coating the headers works and looks great. For the canister of the muffler, the HMF is powder coated not painted.

Next ride I'd suggest hollering at the top of your lungs and no one will notice how pathetically quiet your exhaust is. Try a Hillbilly yeehaw with some Mexican yipping and Indian war whoops mixed in. Sure to impress!! If this doesn't get it for you head down to your local autoparts store and get one of those chrome 4" mufflers people slap on their Neons.

You should be able to find a high temp paint at the hardware store, most are rated at 900 - 1200 degrees, but the only colors I have seen are black and silver. I have also seen black paint for barbeque grills at local stores, I have used it on snowmobile and ATV exhausts with great results. As far as the louder exhaust, please don't do that, noise is not power, yes, free flowing exhausts with the proper jetting will make more power, but at the expense of much more noise, which will irritate your neighbors and the people you ride with.Don't hack at the QS 1, it is made to be quiet, if you must, sell it and buy a different silencer that is made for more performance, as long as you don't mind the extra noise.

You've asked this question before, and you were provided accurate answers by very knowledgable people. I can tell you this much...by hacking that silencer apart, 2 things will happen...1st, your bike will sound like crap...not necessarily loud, just like crap...2nd, it will run like crap...you'll feel like your riding a lawn tractor...if that's OK with you, then by all means rip the thing apart. You have to understand that pipe was designed to be quite....by gutting the thing, you destroy not only the dampening properties of the pipe, but the way it makes power as well.

I take it this is on a DS650? I have a stock muffler on mine that has been completely gutted, sounds like a freaking mac truck. I'll swap you even for the quit muffler and that way we will both have what we want. I'm tired of my ears ringing after a couple of hours of riding. Email me if your interested.
