OT: Chevy Truck Guys
#1
Any of you guys know what year Chevy switched from a Carburetor to EFI on the 454? Ford went to EFI on the 460 in 1988, and I have a feeling Chevy would have done the same within a year of that. I found a Chevy forum that I was going to search for the results, but whoever runs that forum is a moron and you can't search it without registering. (A lot of good that would do me until I own something powered by Chevy...)
I found a website that sells some 454 headers as 1998+ EFI, so this leads me to believe that Chevy in fact made the switch in 1988. Any comments about how good Chevy's first year of EFI was? I know Ford did OK in 1989 on the 460 (we had one a while back.)

on the 350 it was 1987 and on the big block it was a year or two after that. they changed the body style in 1988 with the pickup.
the early efi big blocks were not all there, kind of a terd. the vortec one was a little better.

I worked for a towing company years ago and the had 2 1990 1 ton duallys with the 7.4L EFI they were great. Decent power and pretty reliable, We had one go to 265,000 miles with only general maintnance (Plugs, wires, cap and rotor, water pump or two, etc) never took the valve covers off. The other truck was totaled sitting on the side of the express way, but it had 185,000 on it with the same maintnance and reliability.
