Default tm 45 guys help plz!!

for some reason the guy i bought it from had the oil tank overflow routed to the carb overflow on the very bottom of the carb any reason why he would do that? should that overflow from the oil tank have a breather?
i pulled the bottom bowl off the tm yesterday. it was in great shape it seemd. i sprayed it out with carb cleanerchecked that the slide and acc pump wernt sticking. and they didnt seem to be. i put it back together and bolted it on the machine. i turned the petcock on and it poured fuel from the bottom overflow. then from the side overflow. after about 3 seconds it stopped. is that normal when filling the bowl back up for the first time? any thing i should look for with this carb? i know a great harley carb guy who said he can build a tm 45 for $100 even sound like a good price?
with the carb on it started easily and idled great. no miss or anything if i slowly opened the throttle it would slowly revv up accordingly. but if i slamed it any over 1\4 throttle it would bog or hesitate badly. if i went to wide open throttle it would just die. any idea what could be causing this? is it the carb like i suspect? should i bother opening it up or just have him rebuild it for me.

Mine does this.every time I take the bowl off. I have a small hammer ready and tap the bowl and it stops. I think I -WE need a new needle and seat. Mine also pours out while wheeling. Ive adg. the floats spot on and it still does it. so it leads me to believe its the needle and seat.
the boog sounds like classic NO acc. pump syndrome. this was really common on the TMs when some first started using them. first do you have a acc. pump on it? there should be a rod connected to the linkage going to the bowl. if there isn't you have two choices get the acc. pump kit from RWR or bump the pilot way up. the bike is starving for fuel when you hit the throttle hard. all that air and no fuel. thats my guess. let us know if you got a acc. pump. also what needle you running ? should be a 96 IDB

i'm going to rip the carb apart again tonight after work. is the acc pump in the bowl? in my tm 45 when u drop the bowl in the actual bowl itself there is a small metal cylinder with a spring under it. is that the acc pump? i thought that was it.

yes thats it. there should be a rod on top that connects to the linkage. when you take it apart you should have a # 50 nozzel in the pump jet. aim it right at the needle. it also needs to be set for a short stroke about 0-1/4 throttle. also are you running the air box lid?

any of you guys have some good staring opoints to start with on the tm';s? id assume set the clip in the middle so the needle isnt completely leand or rich and go from there but as for the rest of it im lost. im going to pull the tm off the ds in a few minutes and snap some photo's maybe that will help me explain things.

Good pics !! they help. OK the pump is there but its missing the actuator rod. in your pic TM bottom w/ the bowl off I see the pump but on the carb side looks like the prev. owner blocked it off w/ a screw. here is a link to the mikuni site it has a manual one can download on the HSR/TM 45 carb TM manual on page 17 there is a lay out and you can see were the rod goes. if you want I can send you a pic of my carb as well. the pump was prob. disabled cause the return spring for the pump is much stiffer and sucks. so they just disabled it and put the softer spring in. If you want the pump activated ( which I recommend) you don't need the stiff spring, its just takes a little tweaking of the softer spring per Hightower specs.

"O" also I case you wernt sure in pic 8 that little brass tit sticking up thats the pump nozzel. when you get it hooked up you will want to point that at the needle.
