Engine Knock

Default Engine Knock

just changed my oil today and i ran my quad around and checked the oil a few times to make sure i wasnt low or overfilled... but i have noticed that my engine has been knocking louder, the normal polaris knock but its louder then usual.. is there something i should watch out for

Change to a heavy weight oil and see what happens!

Keep your 0w40 oil in the machine. If you let it drain too long or pulled the screen you also needed to bleed / prime the oil pump. If you did that I would just ride it. It seems my 2004.5 500 is quieter than I remember my 2002 but then again I am probably just used to it.

i get my oil in and out within 10 minutes.... i rode the crap otta it this weekend up in Hawkins and its running better and sounds smoother

Check th e primary clutch buttons when they get worn it sounds just like an engine knock.

alright when i get the cover off what do i look for.. would i need a feeler gauge? im still on my original Dayco HP belt my quad has just over 1900 miles on it.

How do you bleed/prime the oil pump?

If the buttons are worn you will be able to tell.But you can eleminate other things by taking the primary clutch off and starting it if the noise quits it was your primary and you need to rebuild it if it is still there you have other problems.
