Is Jetting Required?
#2
Last year we rode the Paiute Trail in Utah. Elevation 6000-11,500 ft. Since mine is set for the 1000 ft elevation here in MO, I had the jets changed at the recommendation of my dealer. Ran great with the change at the higher elevations. I couldn't tell any difference in the power from stock jets back home.
If I recall, the stock jets are like 21 or 22 and they put in 14s. The dealer has chart or something to go by. They don't just guess at what it needs.

Thanks that is my plan also (Paiute Trail). Is there a concern that you may be running too lean at 1,000ft.? On my snowmobiles I rejet all the tine. Being a New ATVer I wonder how complex rejecting would be on the V2 650 myself.

I don't know how difficult it is to do yourself. I know I didn't want to do it and probably have a machine that wouldn't run at all.
My dealer said if I ran it around here with the rejet, it wouldn't have the power, especially top end. But he also said I probably shouldn' t run it that lean around here either. So I didn't other than load it on the trailer.
I know it ran fine in the mountains. I had it up to 55 mph before backing down on one trail (gravel road really). That indicates the leaner jets don't hurt power too much.
