Default Why does Predator 500 have a oil pump timing marK

Just redid a Pred/Outlaw 500 motor. The oil pump gear has a timing mark on it. I have never seen a 4 stroke require a timing mark for the oil pump. Is this indeed a timing mark ? And if so, how and what is it timed to ?

Yes the crank shaft gear and counter balancer gear have a timing mark for obvious reasons. Have never seen a timing mark on any oil pump gear. Possibly you're looking at a casting mark.Never saw a mark on any Ktm engines oil pump gears for that matter also as they supplied the engines for the Outlaw.
