#1
i'm actually just re-installing the stock cam.. and i'm wondering how you line everything up so that the cam is in the right position? there are 2 hash marks on it - i do not have a book and am just trying to "line everything up" correctly. so any pointers/directions would be great.

Rotate the crankshaft counterclockwise, while holding the timing chain up, until the flywheel 'T' mark lines up with the index mark on the left crankcase cover. Install the cam sprocket onto the cam chain so the index lines on the sprocket are level with the cylinder head surface, there should be a third index line next to a cam bolt hole, make sure it is facing straight up. Put the cam in the sprocket with the points of the lobes facing downwards. make sure the sprocket is firmly against the camshaft ( flat ) top and bottom. Put some thread locker on the cam bolts. Put one in snug or finger tight and turn the engine over and install the other cam bolt. The service manual suggests that you torque the bolt with the index mark next to it first, then turn the engine over and torque the other cam bolt. ( torque to 14 lbf-ft ) Then install the cam chain tensioner. Remove the center plug screw from it and wind back in ( clockwise ) with a small screwdriver and then install while holding the screwdriver fom spinning. Once the cam chain tensioner bolts are tightened, remove the small screwdriver, and reinstall the removed tensioner plug bolt. Turn the engine over ( counterclockwise ) and check the cam alignment marks are flush with the head while the flywheel mark is on TDC. Hopefully you got it right the first time. Install the cylinder head cover and adjust the valves.
