sprocket and chain swap on the lt 80
#1
they offer a sprocket and chain kit for the lt 80.They claim it'll be a little quicker due to the smaller 428? chain, they say the 520 o ring is too bulky and just drags the lt 80 down,is this true?will the smaller chain help in acceleration? It also comes with a sprocket upgrade which comes with a tooth bigger sprocket which will help top speed but what I want to know about is will this combo help in acceleration. They say its the biggest bang for the buck.Any one out there got one ?Some one must have tried it by now.Any info will help......... Not too woried about top speed but if it comes with being quicker we'll take it!!!

Hey Baldy,
Yes, it helps the acceleration. That chain has alot less drag than the monster stock chain. You will probably notice the difference just rolling it out of your garage. At least we did.

It got put on hold until now. Weve been building a drag quad for the last few months, and time hasnt been on my side. The Lt is just about finished. It has a 4mm stroker crank, lightened flywheel, and some great clutch mods. We should have it back together in 2 weeks or so. I have the new front end designed, I just have to make it. +2 billet a-arms. Its getting a 5 hp shot of nitrous on top of everything else. We will be running it at the West Michigan Sand Dragway in June if anyone happens to be going there. We also run alot of tracks in Wisconsin and Illinois.
Way to many projects, LOL

Hey BALDY,
Here's some info I got from Jack. Gonna try it as soon as I get ahold of some new sprockets. Just need to find somewhere to get them for the LT.
I've been steered away from the Midwest Mini stuff by numerous people.
Go to the 428 chain sprockets. Go to the local tractor store or go-kart shop and get #40 chain. It's pretty cheap at about under $20 for 10 ft of chain. There are half links available for this chain, which helps when fitting it.
Good Luck

The aluminum rear sprocket will hold up if you get the chain tension right. Ours , with alot of motor mods, held up just fine for an entire season. The key is to get a chain tensioner, or make the rear end adjustable. Its nearly impossible to put any chain/sprocket combo on that machine, other than stock. Terrible design. LOL
Although, you cant go wrong with a steel sprocket. We will be swithing back over to steel this season.
