ICE STUDS: anyone tried these in their tires
#1
Has anyone used the ICE STUDS in their tires. Do they stay in your Tires very well going from ice to dirt a lot and how bad do they tear up your ***** when removed I first read about them here

I didn't know you could do this I think I may try to use studs instead of chains this winter on the icy roads.

I have used studs before and if you use a good pattern and enough screws, you can hook op as good as if you were on dirt. I ride the bay of Green Bay and some of the rivers leading into it. a You will need at least 300-500 screws in each rear tire and about 150 in each front to really hook up. I would get a 5/8" or 1/2" screw depending on how thick your tire is.

I used studs on my 300ex you must use 200 to 300 in each rear tire and close to 100 or more in the fronts. They will ruin your tires. I would recommend a set of ice tires and a set of tires for dirt. If you ride with anyone I would recommend you use a stud long enough to go through the tire all the way and put a nut on the back side. The tires will hold air but, would still put a sealant inside to stop all leaking.
Studs do and will eventually pull out of the knobby even if nutted I have been hit before and its no fun. They have torn winter jackets and chipped helmets and face shields.

not worth the effort to put in studs because the live axle will destroy them. i found chains worked great going from ice to dirt and snow. use the studs if your just going to stay on the ice and don't horse your machine around with studs if your not on the ice. later -dana
