fixing to set fire to a raptor..
#1
i posted this in the yamaha forum and didnt get a single response....let me try here...im working on dudes 02 raptor....very neglected...set for months....would not roll or run.....to start had to replace carrier and axle....free up brakes....replaced plug(ngk), oil and filter(total drain), cleaned air filter, fuel filter, 2 ultra carb cleanings, new battery, and 93 octane after draining and flushing the tank...and the one way for the starter....okay...baack together....starts and idles fine.....when you give it gas its as if its in rev limit mode... play with the controls on the clutch perch for awhile with no luck and decide to bypass....tried a couple of ways some raptor sites suggested and still doing the same thing....even tried the 10-100 ohm resistor as per raptor tranny describes...still nothing...this bike is really pissing me off...any suggestions or questions are welcome....also anyone that has overheated a raptor and can tell me the symptoms before and after would narrow my diagostic search down tremedously....ive called my local dealers and they are either unwilling or unknowing.....thanks in advance....

Have you tried grounding the green/white wire under the front sprocket? That should prevent the reverse/parking rev limiter from working. The symptoms you describe are either the rev limiter or the carbs are not properly seated in their boots and the engine can't develop vacuum to open the slides.

hey ubet....i did ground that wire and actually is still grounded....can the cdi if malfunctioning do the same thing?.....on the carb seating...im going to pull and reinstall when i get in tonight...but as it idles ive sprayed carb cleaner around all the boots looking for a vacuum leak and found no change...but like i said im open to all suggestions and will be on it tonight...thanks

i havent checked the jetting per say.....when i cleaned the carb(twice) i made sure everything was unclogged and flowed freely...its a stock unit...i was the first to disassemble the carb (or anything on this bike for that matter.....now as far as running rich off idle im not too sure....it definitely does as you give it gas up to the rev limit (im assuming 2000rpm)....now choke assembly ....1st off i did not disassemble when i cleaned carb...i disconnected cable from perch...i did unscrew and look inside...looked clean and spring looked good(moving freely)... put it back together....when first starting i have to put apply choke to start and back off as normal after it warms up....after warm if choke applied it raises the rpm(less than 2000rpm) so im assuming its working properly.....like is said before.....if you think this area needs further attention i will....i do appreciate all the help!....on the jetting it just seems that it worked for this guy to thrash this bike for a few years...what would the difference be now... same alt and temp....?

I tryed to post a message in the other one. Check that one out. It's to do with your Parking Brake. Don't take your carb apart again. I was doing the samething. Just check out my theory in the other topics you setup. Thanks

WheelingGuy2003, This has to be your problem. Believe me I know how bad you are getting pissed. Samething happened to me. Had alot of parts to put on the Quad right. Just started ripping into it. Well when I removed the parking brake cable to put a block off on there I screwed with something up there by the clutch handle. It took me 4 hours to not shot the bike with a 9mm and figure it out. There is a button up inside the clutch handle where you have the parking brake lever. See I removed that completly not knowing. You have to have that in there. Now if you didn't remove that lever well there something wrong with your sensor. All I can tell you is it's the Parking Brake. Test this Theory out and hopefully I am of some good for ya. SSG JACOBS Peace in the MiddleEast!
I just did a copy a paste for ya. This is your problem. I remember looking down the intake thinking what the hell is going on! Just try my theory. Parking Brake Bro.
