Chain Tensioner question for 2000 Scrambler 500HO 4x4
#1
Hey guys I have a question for a chain tensioner. What is the difference between a tensioner that is concentric and non-concentric as far as operational point from HPD. I called HPD and the lady that answered had no clue what concentric even was. So my question is what would work better the centered or non-centered on my 2000 Scrambler on which I just broke my chain while doing some small jumps. Your bike is a CONCENTRIC DRIVE MODEL
Polaris machines prior to 1998 model year were Non-Concentric
Polaris chain drive machines there after were concentric drive meaning the distance between the front and rear sprocket does not change through out articulation (SUSPENSION TRAVEL)

Concentric and nonconcentric are refering to your swing arm. If your tranny sprocket and your swing arm pivot bolt are directly in line with eachother you have a concetric model of Polaris. I think yours is, but take a look to make sure.

Hey thats great but when I push down on the rear to compress the shock the chain becomes tight !!

Yes it will, but it is minimized with a concentric drive model. As said before your Swingarm Piviot point and front sprocket are in line. Your MY2000 machine is DEFINATLY concentric drive

OK that will work then. I just was not aware that the concentric would allow the chain to become that tight. I'll give HPD a call and order the concentric tensioner and thanks. Confused. Why would one need a chain tensioner on a concentric drive? The manual has you adjust the chain quite tight.

On the concentric drive models the tensioner mounts to the swingarm,on the older models or non concentric drive, the tensioner mounts on the frame. It is still a good idea to run a tensioner on a concentric drive, just from chain stretch .
