99 scrambler 500 4x4 ????

Default 99 scrambler 500 4x4 ????

my buddy has a 99 scrambler 500 4x4 will not run now we cleaned the carb no luck it woould run but now it want do any this we did a compression cheek to day on it it was readin 70 -75 psi can some one tell me if thats right i thought it should be 95 to 100psi. where is the timing on the scrambler at how do you cheek that. Please help. if any ones got a web site that shows where the timein is at please post it thanks

Default 99 scrambler 500 4x4 ????

Firts thing he needs to do is get a service manual.But I would bet the valves need adjusting or the cam has a bad lobe.Get it on TDC on compresion and set the valves at .006

yeah he needs a book but money tight right now so he cant get one. whats a TDC ? how do you get to the valv?es sorry dont no much about his quad.

Default 99 scrambler 500 4x4 ????

first off you have to take the front plastic off,then gas tank,pull spark plug wire out move it back out of the way,the bolts on the valve cover are 5/16 and there is 8 i belivie ,be careful not to rip the gasket taken off the cover,on the pull cord housing there is a 14mm bolt just right of the pull cord take it out and there is a point on the end of the therads this point has to line up with a T on the flywheel not the three lines,when it is lined up right the cam should point down at the crank parell ,the lifters should be loose just enough to wiggle them,you'll need a 10mm and a stubby straight ,feeler gauge .006 for all valves ,they recomend two feeler gauges for the exaust side to get them the same.if need anymore help
