Default 250 engine siezed

My brother was riding the 2002 250 explorer down the camp road today, and it died on him. He said it started to bog down, and eventually he was giving it full throttle just to keep moving. He doesnt know too much, so he just kept going until it finally stalled on him. I am assuming it started to bog down, he said the "sound got lower like it was in a high gear".

Air filter is dry and clean.

The pull start won't move, it cant get over the first cycle even with the plug out. The spark plug is grey and pitted, and looks severely burned. It was a new one put in last week. Oil tank was full, even though it seemed like it used no oil. I never had to put any in last year. I used to be worried about this, but the dealer says they burn very little oil.

I fear the worst. Is this engine toasted? This wheeler has had 3 years of riding around my property. It has been kept up with maintenance. If anything went wrong, I know it was not my fault. Is my engine shot?

I've never had a Polaris 2 stroke, but have had other oil injected engines. Seems to me that it wasn't pumping oil. True, they don't use a lot, but there should be a noticeable consumption.

Hard to say about your engine - you'll have to tear it apart to see the extent of the damage.

The dealer said he'd take a look at it for me. He gave me a rough figure and said if it was just the top end that went, it would run somewhere around 500. I'm not too happy about that, it's not like I forgot to put oil in or something like that.

I have a 99 TB that I still have and had a 00 TB that I traded for a dirt bike. Like you said,
they don't use much oil but I did refill mine to the full mark every time I put gas in. He should
have noticed a significate drop in oil if he checked. So unless he did very little riding last
year I would say that the engine seized due to lack of oil from a bad oil pump.

I think that 500 may have included labor, and he was reluctant to even give me a price, I had to tell him it was not a quote over and over.

We did a lot of riding last year. It seems that a full tank of gas brings the oil to about .25-.5 inches down. Both the 250's do this though.

my '92 250 2 stroke had the same symptoms. took the clutch cover off and saw that the thick rubber gasket behind the cover had come loose and wrapped around the clutch. got it cut off and turned over like butta'. i would check this first before i took it to the dealer.

When you squeeze the throttle does the oil pump arm move, I've seen the pump cable frey and break only! While the throttle worked fine. Your dealer is pobably assuming the worst, crank bearings also. And yes you're machine most likely blown up.
