To much oil in motor...
#1
I did some work on my 01 Raptor and unfortunatly let a buddy help. It seems that he put three quarts of oil in the raptor. I did not realize this until I started the raptor and it stalled on me and now I can not get it running again. This is when I realized that all three quarts of oil were empty. I have since drained some oil. When I take the plug out and clean it and reinstall it the quad will sputter but not start. Done this several times. My assumption is that there was so much oil in the motor that is blew by the pison and is not allowing the quad to run. Have spark and have gas. Timing was not touched. My question is what is the best way to clean the cylinder to get back riding?

What did he think it was, a lawn mower. Sorry, but I don't want to give advise in a situation like this. I don't know what the effects are on the motor when you have too much oil.
The first thing you should do is pour 3 quarts of oil down your friends throat and see how he likes it.

Well there is no oil leaking out the motor so that could be a good or bad thing. This means the oil could be leaking inside the motor to where it should not be. does not look like there is any oil in the antifreeze. That is new stuff to. I know that is not overfilled. I did that part of it. I did the new plug thing and she still will not fire. I thing I will spray some starter fluid in the piston tonight and then crank the crap out of it with the plug out to see how much crap comes out of the cylinder. Maybe this will clean it enough to get it to fire then it will clean itself through the exaust with smoke. Wish me luck!

Costly is right. I will just add three quarts of oil to the bill goiing to this kid that made the mistake. He accidently parked his sled on my quad over the winter when we were riding on the lake. New plastic, new radiator, new fan. Lucky he missed the Elka's. Would have drained his bank account.

IF it was me i would first check to see if oil blew back in ur carbs if so clean the up because if there that much oil that blew through the cylinder the it probally went in the carb boot and will run down in the carb so clean that up and on cleaning ur cylinder i would remove the plug dump a lil gas in the it turn it over let it bow it out and repeat about twice throw in ur plug and ride i dont think its hurt . BUt good luck let us know how it goes P.S i forone think no one can work on your on stuff better than yourself i never let no one do any of my work the few times i have they screwed up i just feel better doing it myself

I tried cleaning the clyender by dumping gas in it and turning it over to spray the gas back out the cylinder. Did this three times and still no luck. I did not have time to take the carbs off last night but hopefully I can get to that tonight. Any other thoughts of what else could have happened would be helpful. Other work I recently did but do not think is the cause of this is that I put a new clutch in. ???.

Im not sure how much oil a raptor holds. Even if it was a half of quart over , I severly doubt that it would hurt anything in that amout of time.
Most bikes have a breather that goes to the engine to the air filter houseing. It may be possible that It blew through there and saturated your air filter causing flooding! Even if it isisnt make sure its clean.......Cover your bases. Little problems can bite ya everry time!
Ive ridden other machines that had litle more oil than they should of..........It never hurt anything. How much oil does a raptor hold according to the manual? It already sounds like you have done pleanty to clean up this motor for over oiling of cylinder. Check your plug for a nice bricght spark! Take it out, plug it in the boot...........hold metal part of plug to the head (by the boot not touching the bike with your hands or body just in case) or any other fairly clean metal surface. if you dont see a nice bright spark ...........toss that puppy. If ya see no spark toss that puppy. Then stick a screw driver in the spark plug boot and hand tt to your buddy! If he Flinches severly when ya crank motor You know ya have good fire and changing the plug will most likel fix! ( do last step at own risk of giving buddy heart attack or getting swat in head!)
If it wasnt smoken while it was running i doubt your carbs or fouled up with oil. But ya never know. I would checkem after ya cover the basics above. If your filter is excessivly oily ya may have gotten some in the bowls. But i dotn think its likly. Save rippen them off for last.
Let us know what ya found...........
