2001 Scrambler 500 4x4 idling problems
#1
I seem to be having a problem with my 2001 Polaris Scrambler 500 4x4 being able to idle. At first I thought it was the on/off switch so I replaced it and then it idled fine. It then sat for a few days and when I went to start it to ride it, it would not idle the rest of that day. I parked it, fired it up again a few days later, and then it idled. Now it is not idling again. If you give it some gas it is fine, but there is a point when you let off on the gas, like an eighth of an inch or so from idle it is slack on the thumb throttle and when you completely let off the throttle the atv then shuts off. Hopefully all of this makes sense and you can give me some ideas since it is driving me nuts.
Thank you for your help,

sounds like you just need to adjust your throttle cable and/or throttle adjustment on the carb.
on the throttle cable theres a rubber boot about 4 inches from the throttle housing. pull the boot back and you will find the adjuster. adjust it just enuf so that the contacts inside the throttle housing dont touch at idle. that is a safety feature in case your throttle cable breaks, it will shut the motor off.

Thank you for your reply. I went out and checked and I don't have a rubber boot coming off the throttle housing. All there is is a black box that the thumb throttle is connected to and then the wire, which runs to the carb. This box on top looks like the top will come off. Is it possible there is an adjustment inside of it?
