Once the oil has been changed in a 400ex and 2 QTS of oil added , about where does everybodys oil level show on the dipstick after a warm up and a couple minutes wait........mine is about halfway between the upper and lower marks

 

That is about right. The whole system holds 2.3 quarts.

What year is your EX...I have an 03, and it calls for 1.8 quarts of oil after the oil and filter change. According to the service manual....when you check your oil, don't screw the oil stick all the way back in, just stick it in and read it...but yes, it sounds like you have the correct amount.

 

Mine is an 2002 model........the owners manual calls for 1.95 Qts after an oil change............and yes I just sit the dipstick on the threads but not screwing it in to check level.....................seems like the 2.3 Qts would bring it to the upper mark without overfilling

 

Are you guys forgetting to drain the cranckase? With the cranckase drained and an oil filter, 1.95 qts. hardly shows on my dipstick.

 

By draining the crankcase to you mean by tilting it so more oil runs out of the drain plug hole.........and how much oil to you put in after this

I just add until it gets to the top of the dipstick. Maybe like another 200-300 mL.
