i bought a 2000 trail boss and the seat does not go all the way up to the gas tank , ther is about a 2 inch gap and it is noisy when you give it gas, it sounds like a breather cover is off and the sound is coming up through the space between the seat and the tank, is this model sappose to be this way.

There is a gap on mine, but not 2 inches. More like half an inch. Check to see if the plastic around the tank is properly bolted on. Don't really notice the noise coming from the gap, nothing that sounds like the breather is off anyway (pipe is a little louder than stock). With that much of a gap, it almost sounds like something is bent (frame?). Can you post any pics to give us a better idea of what it looks like?

i think the bolts are on correct, i dint think to look to see if something is bent i will have to look at that. is ther sappose to be anything on the end of the air intake that comes up under the seat towards the gas tank. if i sit over the gap its quiet. the opening of the air intake is right there..tim

Go here Polaris scroll down to the bottom of the page and look for manual/brochures. Click on that and go to manuals. You can download the parts manual for free, and it will help you get an idea of what should be connected. You may want to look on Ebay for a service manual, got mine for 23 bucks. It's a must if you're going to do anything yourself. The airbox should not have any gap from the air box to carb, and carb to engine.
