need help from fellow 400ex riders

yea, just wondering, i use 10w-40 oil (cant remember the name right off but it comes in a white container sold at all atv shops around here with a silver street bike racing on the front), but anyway, how much oil do you all put in your quad.....i cant seem to get mine just right....some have told me a whole 2 containers (quarts) and some say only 1 and a half....i used about 1 and 3/4 but need to check it again and see if its right.......your help would be appreciated,,,,i know this is kinda lame question but lil stuff like this bothers me,hehe....thanks!

changed the oil and filter this weekend and it took 2 quarts. After 2 quarts it was full to the point that it was running out of the reservoir but after I started it up it leveled out ok. Be sure to drain the oil out of the case by removing the drain plug just behind the shifter. See your manual.

Whenever I change mine I put 2 quarts in and then I let the motor idle for 5 minutes. Then I check the oil level and it's always about halfway between full and low. So I add oil until it reaches the full mark. This is the method descibed in the manual. Also, have you ever tried 20w-50 it seems to work better in my 400.
