Hey guys I am working on my uncles 4x4 and am looking for some help. It is 2001 or 02 and when you go in reverse the 4x4 wont engage even when the override button is pushed. I replaced the override switch and that did not do any good. The 4wheel drive does work when you go forward. but not backwards. And also the reverse light always stays on, on the dash. Could these two problems be related? Thanks for any help.

 

The reverse light is always on, at all times while riding? That is likely your problem - the quad is designed to not engage AWD in neutral, or in reverse(without override pushed). I think there is a sensor on the gear shift, or the other end of the shift linkage for that. The linkage may be a little off (or something like that). I would say that those problems are definetly related.

 

did the wiring under the head unit ever get messed around with... may be as simple as a ground wire or a lead wire unhooked... maybe even shorted or switched around
