Default Any machinist interested in fabricating a part?

I am looking for a modified version of a dipstick. I want to be able to screw a plug into oil tank that allows me to connect the clear rubber hose coming from my quart of oil. I basically want to stop spilling any oil. I think these would sell like crazy on e-bay.

Another interesting prospect would be to make the bracket that would allow you to put a 400ex rear caliper on a 300ex. The difference in price between the two is ungodly. A brand new rear caliper for a 400ex lists at $145. It is almost $300 for the 300ex. I personally don't need this but others might.

Thanks,

Jon

Just an FYI on the oil cap idea. It may not work super well without a vent of some type. Also if U go to Wal Mart they had a cap that went on an oil bottle and it had a clear hose on it. Stick the hose in the engine then tip, worked great with no mess. It is plastic and only costs about $2.00 or so. This would be a hard price to beat plus there is no concerns with threads of a different pitch or different thread size. This is not to put you down, just trying to help you and maybe save you some $$
Good luck

Not trying to put you down...but will a 49 cent funnel work? How much would you pay for the device youre thinking of?
Ive also seen that device at wallys world, looks like a good idea, and it might be what youre looking for.
I work in manufacturing, and believe me, id be hard pressed to do something like that for 49 cents. Then youd have to have your cut, and pay for shipping , and make it worth while. How much are you thinking it would have to sell for?
Like I say, Im not trying to tear down your idea, but its surprising how much it costs to make and sell things.

Send me a drawing or something if you want .I always like a challenge of sorts .Maybe there's a place we can drill and tap and put a plug in it, vice-versa take it off, to create a vent. Let me know and I will get you my e-mail to you..........Wild

SlueFoot,

Finding a place to ride is almost impossible. I used to be able to ride from my house to the old horse farm on Fort Smallwood that is now a golf course. I used to ride at Bloody Pond but you can't park there any more without getting caught. I used to ride near 100 and 295 but a new development was put in by Arundel Mills. In fact, I could get from there to Coca Cola drive. I now ride on Solley Road in Pasadena because I have a safe place to park. Much of the land is county land or power lines neither of which you are supposed to ride on. I have heard riding at Coca Cola is a hit or miss proposition now too. I got caught riding on Patapsco State Park land too so I have to be careful riding anywhere around Coca Cola drive. It is hard to tell when you are on state property. Two of my three quads are on probation with DNR. :-)

I got so tired of trying to find a place to ride that I bought 42 acres in WV. I've owned it for 17 months so far and haven't done anything with it yet. I bought a 30X40' garage but haven't put it up. The community is having problems deciding who was supposed to pay for the electric along the roads (the developer or us). I need electric for water before I am interested in staying there. I bought the land to put in a personal track. The problem is that it is a 3 hr drive for me (the land is near Augusta, WV which is out Route 50 before Romney). It isn't the type of place to go for a day trip. I plan to get someone to come in with some heavy equipment to build the track.

I've been up to Tower City, Paragon, and Rausch Creek a few times. My favorite place to go is Hatfield McCoy though. I go there once or twice a year for 5-7 days. Let me know if you would be interested in heading to Rausch Creek for a day.

Funnel won't work since I have little patience for tasks like waiting for oil to drain. Funnels are a good way to get dirt into the engine too.

I plan to hang the bottle from the handlebar. Once hanging, I will puncture the bottom of the oil container. The oil will flow down into the engine under gravity. The air will come into the bottle through the hole in the bottom (which is now the top) and leave the engine through the usual breather vent hose.

People make replacement dipsticks all the time. This is just a modified version. I would pay $30-40 for this piece if it were manufactured for many to use. I would pay $75-80 if someone manufactured it and didn't want to produce any more. I have 3 400exs so I change oil quite a bit. Enough that I have my own Amsoil account.
