Default gs1100 motor into a ds650 help!

we did a kz 1000 motor in a tecate and started a gs1150 in a quadzilla but came to a very important conclusion, if your gonna do it make it a lot easier on your self and use a newer liquid motor they are way smaller and easier to install and make better power and you can even use a fuel injected motor.

che,

Its a long road my friend. Start with the frame. You have to measure, measure, measure to make sure the sprockets will line up perfectly when done. Watch the pivot tube on the swingarm, it is crucial. Move the motor sprocket 1/2 inch forward or back, and it changes the geometry of the chain considerably. Yes, you will need to cut the frame if you want to do it right. Some get away with just rotating the motor forward, but oiling problems can, and probably will arise from that. Not to mention it will probably look terrible. So, I guess, start with the frame, then motor mounts, then cooling system, then wire harness and fuel. Just my 2 cents.

Their is alot of frame work that goes into these conversions, each motor will be different, so I cant tell you just what and where you will have to cut. First you will need to take some measurements and right them down. On the bottom of the frame Measure from the footpegs to point up front(like the a-arms). after you cut your bottom frame rails out yur frame will flex forward a couple inches. you will need these measurements to refer back once you start fabricating your new bottom frame rails,I dont think you will need to do the top, cause your carbs will hang striaght back, but if need be, you will do the top the same way.

Start their, after you cut out the bottom frame rails bring your engine in from the bottom and jack it up into position. Be mindfull at all timeswhere your shifter, brake lever, exhaust, oil cooler ( if you have one) radiator ( if you have one) will be. Fab up your bottom frame rails, ( remember 2 get back to the origional maesurment you took earlier) then start on your motor mounts.

Bigger.
