1985 Big Red 250 ATC - No Spark
#1
I just put a new stator and magneto in and when I checked for spark it was good. When I went to start it acted like I was getting no spark and, in fact, when I pulled the plug - no spark. I tried another CDI and had spark, but, again, when I put it in the cylinder and tried to fire it up - no more spark. It ran great before and no other changes. I'm beating my head against the wall and if anyone has a clue I'd sure appreciate it.

HMMMM, maybe try a new plug, may be cracked, or make sure the ends are good and tight on the plug wire, and OHM out the plug wire also and wiggle it around to check for a possible break in the wire.

I'll give it a try. The only thing I could think of was magneto clearance. I had an 1/8" where the magneto just wouldn't go any further. I tried an impact wrench after sliding it on over key way, and I tried tapping on it as I torqued it down to suck it in further but it wouldn't go any further. When I finally said screw it and put it back together I thought I might have a clearance problem w/the case but there wasn't. I called a couple of Honda shops and they couldn't answer the question on the specs either. I don't know if this would be the cause or not, but I will try a new plug and wiggle the wire as I check for spark.

seems like all these silly bikes are looking for ground and will get slutty to find them anywhere they can. I've seen them run/spark with the lights on but not without. I've got one right now that's driving me crazy too so I just bought another one yesterday so I have something to ride while I fix this one
