i don't have a manual for my rancher and was wonder how much oil is supposed to be in the crank case. also, where should the level of oil be on the dipstick and the position of the dipstick when checking the oil? i just changed my oil and this is when my shifting problems began. i'm wondering if the oil change had anything to do with my shifting problem. i check my oil by setting the dipstick on the top of its hole and then reading the level.( not with the dipstick screwed down in its hole). my oil level is right on the top line on the dipstick. thanks for your help - dana

 

Dana67, You don't have a manual? did you look in the stowage box it should be in the white plastic cover inside! your stowage box it snaps in place on the top side. your oil level sounds about right but I am sure the level would not affect the shifting. unless maybe if it was real low but even then I doubt it.

 

The Rancher engine oil capacity is 2.1 US qt. at draining/filter change. It holds 2.6 US qt. at disassembly. To check the oil, place it on level ground, start the engine and allow it to idle for 5 minutes (10 minutes if temperatures are below 50F). Stop the engine, remove the dipstick, wipe it clean and reinsert WITHOUT screwing it in. The oil should be between the upper and lower level marks on the dipstick. If I remember correctly, the listed capacity was right on.
The manual says that it is important on dry sump engines to check it warm.
