Default 03 SPORTY 700 CARB ADJUSTMENT

I have a 2003 700 that is equipped with a pro-circuit pipe and a K&N air filter, and a HOT SEAT cluth kit. My issue is the the correct factory carb setting? The previous "bike shop" that worked on the carb actually leaned it and had the pilot screw so far out of adjustment , it would barely stay running. Any way I have put the factory jets back in and basically rebuilt the carb. Where is the baseline setting for the pilot screw. It seems to be loading up still at idle. The mid range top end is great, but once at idle after 5 miutes or so it dies. Also the Pro-Circuit T4 head pipe and muffler are the cats meow for your sport ute. There website is http://procircuit.rideshop.com/catal...?cPath=1_14_25 its a liitle pricey but its stainless.

This is just a guess but is probably 1 1/2 to 2 turns out. How many turns out do you have it now?

THE service manual says 1.5 turns also. I know it was set when we put the carb back on. It might be as much as two out now. It idles for a while and every now and then you will see some black exhaust smoke, which I believe is the hint that its loading up AKA rich. If the carb is needing to be leaned will the idle have to be reset following the pilot adjustment?

You might have to adjust your idle just a little but not much if any after your adjust you pilot screw. If you have the pilot 1 1/2 turns out it should be close to right. You might check your air filter to make sure its clean and make sure you choke cable is adjusted properly and not staying pulled out causing a rich condition.
