oil

.........Synthetic.......(straight synthetic......no need for a blend) is just fine and far superior to a regular petrolium based oil.......and for numerous reasons, not the least of which is the ability to maintain protection at high, constant temperatures (it does not "breakdown") like a regular oil can.
They don't run synthetics in brand new BMW's, etc for the hell of it.

Whether you choose a synthetic, blend, or petroleum oil, use a motorcycle specific API SG/JASO MA oil. http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm
Synthetics are fine, but more expensive. There isn't a petroleum oil that I would use.......the synthetics are so superior. My personal preference is Maxima Extra, 100% ester synthetic. http://www.maximausa.com/technical/l...beNews2002.pdf
At one time, Honda did not even recommend its own HP4 synthetic blend for any of the autoclutch bikes, but all the 05 owners manuals now say it is fine to use it (without moly). This is where the confusion about whether synthetics were allowed or not originated. (My hunch is that they reformulated HP4, and not that they made any changes to the engine.)
