Default Tool Storage under Rear seat on '5 Sportsman LEAKS

It seems that Polaris wanted the "new" expanded rear tool storage area to be Leakproof by putting on a weather strip on the door/latch of it....but the PROBLEM IS.....the storage box is TWO pieces and after washing my ATV, it was FULL of water....the two halves leak!!!!

IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS?

Pull the storage container out and use silicone on it when you put it back together

Yeah mine leaks to, I might try the silicone treatment
if removing the compartment is not to complex.

Sealing the joint between the upper and lower halves will help, but if you wash with a pressure washer like I do there's no way to keep the interior of that box dry. I siliconed the joint between the sections where I could see daylight coming through but I still put everything in there that can be damaged by water into a waterproof container.

I posted a while ago that while I was swapping out the rear rack extender on my '05 I removed my rear fendors to gain access, and took
my rear storage compartment apart. I filled the groove in the lower half with black rtv silicone, reinstalled the upper half, and then applied
more rtv to the inside and out. I can assure it no longer leaks from the seam, I I hope I never have to try to get it apart! It no longer leaks when washing it. But I had a chance to really test it a week ago... I had the rear of my machine completely submurged while I floated it a short distance through a mud/water pit behind our favorite bar near Hurley Wisconsin. After getting onto dry ground again, I
opened the rear storage door to find maybe 3-4 tablespoons of water inside. But it stayed in the low spot just inside the door, and didn't leak all the way to the bottom. I wiped it dry with a paper towel and closed it up. I guess I'm pretty happy with it now, but I may try to
adjust the rear door to close a little tighter to see if it helps.

The only water that got into my front storage area splashed in through the radiator cap access cover inside of the compartment. The lid on my front storage compartment seems to seal much better after I installed the front rack extender. I added some rubber weather stripping to the rad. cap access cover, so I will test it and let you know. I've learned it is much easier to fix the little things on my machines myself than to complain and whine about it. After working as a mechanic for a high line car company, I've learned that the more
expensive something is, the bigger pile of crap it is... just because you paid a lot for something doesn't mean it is built better. Don't get me wrong, I love polaris ATV's, but like all of the other machines out there, they are built by humans.
