Default scrambler tranny

Has anyone with a scrambler had the chain break and bust the tranny case. I had that happen this past weekend. I looked at the price on a half case and I can get it for 179.99 dollars. My main question is how hard is it to take the tranny apart. By the diagrams I have seen, I will have to take the whole tranny apart to replace the half case that broke. I have turned many wrenches in my day but have not torn apart a polaris tranny YET. I am going to do it no matter how hard it is but I was wondering if there are any trade secrets or special things I should know before I have 5000 parts sitting on the work bench.

i had ther exact same thing happen to me a few months ago. The hardest part is not taking the tranny apart. I found that the hardest part was getting the tranny in and out. That took longer than having to take the tranny apart and putting it back together. Just buy a manual and make sure to lube everything up before you put it back together and you will be fine. And by the way... I paid $150 for my tranny case and i got it from the dealer.

That was on a 4x4. I just got it through my local polaris dealer. The one i use is Hernley's Farm Equipment, INC. In Elizabethtown, PA. The phone number is 717-367-8867 or 800-564-2511. I also found that price from sites on the internet but they never sent it to me so i just went through the dealer. But now that i am thinkin about it it may have been more than $150 but it was less than the price if i had ordered it off the internet with shipping. But i still feel that is a good deal
