Default '84 Honda TRX200 shifting

i have a '84 Honda TRX200 that was given to me because it didn't run. After rebuilding the carb, the beast runs great. However, it is very hard to upshift. This model is a manual shift with no clutch. It is especially hard shifting from 1st to Neutral. Any ideas of a way to make the shifting easier. The 4 wheeler sat for years until now.

Also, anyone know of the best (reasonable) place to get a muffler for it? Thanks

Its got a clutch, its just activated automaticly.
Hows the idle speed?
Unfortunetly those old machines saw a lot of abuse, and bent shift forks, and worn dogs, are common. You could try an oil change, and clutch adjustment, and if that doesnt make it better...the inside of the tranny needs to be looked at.
Your best bet, if you want to keep it and fix it up...is to get a service repair manual. Check the local library, and ask the librarian, because if they dont have a copy, they can get one from another branch. The service manuals are in the 629.28 area of nonfiction.

thank you very much for the info. I know it needs an oil change because I haven't done that yet. at first it wouldn't hardly idle at all without throttling. i adjusted the idle to fix that but nothing really affected the shifting - should it? sorry but I'm not the mechanic type.
