Default Rubicon front end. Is this normal?

Hi,

I have a 2005 Rubicon that is not one of the affected units that requires the tie rod end replacement. I noticed today when I was cleaning the quad that there is some free play in the front wheels (Tie rod ends) If I grab the wheel at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions, 6 being on the ground, and try to rock the wheel from left to right there is some free play in the tie rods. By play, I am talking about 1 mm, but it's there. This is my first quad so this is new to me. I have owned Honda 3 wheelers in the past so there is no comparison. Is this normal on a quad? I look forward to any response from any of you fellow ATV'ers.

Thanks,
Bruiser

I love this quad so far. Quite a nice bike for what I use it for!

Honda has a recall bulletin on thier web site about the tie rod recall inspection and repairs. Yours may be fine but you can read about it there.
Hopr this will help ease your mind some. You can also call your dealer and he can fill you in also.

I think the dealers are inspecting any of those machines just in case. But in fact, 1mm is not much at all, most important thing the periodically check is the wheel bearings. I'll jack up one side of the quad and try to rock the wheel left-right and up down to see if there's any play in the bearngs. If there's only a little, you may need to turn the castle nut in another notch, if its real bad the bearing will need to be replaced. Check all wheels of course!!!
