Team Alba Racing CDI
#1
I am looking for an aftermarket CDI, but have heard bad things about the pro-com or hi-atv cdi's. they are the most affordable, but I have also heard conflicting stories on if/or how much they raise the rev limit and how they impact the shift points. I jsut saw on team Alba's site that they have a Team Alba Racing CDI for $69.99 that will fit my 04 Viper. It claims an increase of 1000 rpm's over stock.
My question is... do any of you have one and how does it work. I have heard that some companies market the pro-com with their label on it to make money. Is that the case with the alba cdi? This is obviously a great price for an aftermarket cdi, but I want to know what I'm getting. Any information would help.
Thanks

Im not sure if Alba is a relabeled pro com cdi. But, I have had one for 3 years and I still think it was a good investment for my bike. Im one that likes to drag race and having that rev limiter was just piece of mind. The other cdi's that I looked at removed the rev limiter all together, so thats why I went with the Alba cdi box.

1BidDSRider - Did you notice any difference in performance or rev limit on your DS by using the Team Alba CDI ? I was also considering the Big Gun which is a little more but claims more increase to the rev limit also. any input on that? Thanks for the info.

Yes it performed better. Before the cdi, my brothers raptor and my bike were neck and neck in every run. After the cdi, I was able to put 1 to 2 bikes on him in every run. I chalked it up to the extra rpm's I was able to achieve.

The older Alba CDIs weren't $69.99 they were 399.99 (I believe.) So if the new one is 69.99 then it is most likely a procomm unit, or perhaps worse - some no name maker. I've heard the procomm units are getting better. (As I understand it they examine the dead units and try to fix whatever happened etc.) If you are on a budget try the procomm unit, I think after a year or two of R&D they'll be a lot better than the old ones. If you have bucks, I think the Vortex is the best CDI to buy, unless you want the complexity of the MSD.

Bomberboy had, I repeat had, the Alba cdi on, he ran it for 3 months it cost 400 dollars to replace the bad gears and one way from the kick back.

The Big Gun is a relabeled Procomm. There really aren't that many truly 'different' CDIs. Woods, Pami (rare,) Vortex, Procomm, MSD, there might be one more OEM I'm forgetting, but pretty much all of the rest are re-labeled. If you are on a budget I believe the CDI from an F650 is also a nice upgrade if you can find one on eBay for cheap.
