kodiak hesitation
#1
I'm asking for help. I have always had a slight hesitation in my 2004 450 kodiak. this happens when you first give it gas there is like a dead spot then it takes off. or it wants to cut out on you when for give it gas or take off and when it is in 4wd. well yesterday a went on a ride where I had to cross a creek a few times now this creek is not super deep and I crossed it some last year with no problem, but yesterday it would want to stall out even if there was a small almount of water in the road. if I went in it, it wanted to stall out. I would have to keep the throttle wide open when i crossed the creek or hit a water spot in the road. this is a stock bike all but the 26 inch mud lites and ITP wheels. it is starting to do this more now and I would like to know if anyone has any idea what is going on. thanks.

First do the dummy checks.......
1. Does it have air/ air filter clean and properly in place.
2. Gas, does it have water in the gas?
3. Does it smoke ?
4. Does it have good spark...............................
Pull your plug and tell us what color it is. That way we can tell if your lean or rich. I would assume your too rich. I need more info though.

I have the similar problem with my 04 Bruin 350 4x4. When its sitting still, when I give it gas, there is a hesitation, only for a brief second or so but still a hesitation before it goes. Any ideas on how to fix it.

kodiakman,
Another stupid one to check, by any chance is your choke lever all the way closed? Mine has done this on occasion but it was because I bumped the choke lever and it does not take much for it to run rich this way and want to die.

Some times just by turning the fuel mixture screw out 1 turn farther can really improve low end response and idling, 3to 3.5 turns out from fully seated position seems to work nice..

The fuel mixture screw is located on the bottom side of carb in front of float bowl, you cant see it ,it is inside a round piece of casting that comes down from carb, ,there is a special tool to get in there, but if you loosen carb and rotate it aliittle you can get a flatblade screw driver in to adjust it.
