What kinda of play? In and out? UP and Down? Play doesn't say much but probably a bearing bad, if not in and out. Easy fix, replace it.

Hi;
Up and down quite a bit of up and down .I think it is the outer bearing, Hope it didn't score the axle.

Bearings get water in them on these things because we insist on riding them the water and no seal is perfect after the new wears off. If the bearing didn't seize (only hear of one doing that) then it is just a matter of removing the axle nut, pull the hub and if necessary remove the knuckle to get the old bearing out.
