Default 01 Raptor Carb boot problems, need raptor owners help here.

Yesterday my brother and a buddy were out riding and i tried starting the raptor after a break and it backfired and blew the cargb boots off both front sides of the carbs. I didnt have the tools on the trails, so after towing it home i inspected the boots and when they blew, they ripped both boots apart.

I need 2 new front boots, i like the UPP Racing ones, but i dont know about the clamp set up or if these are even neccesary.
Any 01 owners have any ideas or ways to fix this from happening again to me. Ive heard to use hose clapms, zip ties, yamah clamps, but i dont know whats best. The yamaha clamps suck i think, so please lead me in the right direction here.

Thanks, Gwinnwarrior

Well, the 02+ Intake boots are made of a solider rubber. I got the 02 update, my dealer did it for free, but i to ripped one of my boots when i stalled it once, the right one so i have it superglued... actually, ive had it superglued for about a month now. .. might want to get that fixed. hm.

I don't mean to steal your thread warrior but is there a better way to keep the boots on the carbs?

Best way not to blow the boots off is, never blip the throttle when starting, I've blown mine off 4 times, simply by blipping the throttle and hitting the starter. If you're blowing them off starting the quad, this should solve your problem. Another solution is to go up one size on the pilot jet, introduces more fuel during the starting process. My boots have never torn, and the UPP Boots will blow off also, seen it happen.

I had the same problem with my raptor so I went up 1 size on the pilot jets.Stock is 22.5 so get 25,s then I grinded the metal spacer on the carb clamps. No problems after I did this.
