I don't know where this article came from but no way that AC is top seller of snowmobiles.Polaris I know for a fact is first then I would say SKI-DOO,then AC then Yamaha.They talk about 30 years in the bussiness there were a few years in the 80's when there was no AC's,they along with alot of other sled makrs bit the dust.Glad they left the reputation thing open,there is reason for that.CM

Up here you would hardly know AC makes a sled, it is mostly Polaris and Yamaha. Polaris is the biggest seller I think by quite a bit too. god reason for that, my GF's 1989 Indy Sport 340 runs as good as new, never needed a thing but some new skis and a couple belts. it has 6700 miles on it. A guy e ride with has 23000 yes 23,000 on his 1988 Sport 340.

 

My Dad used to have a snowmobile dealership in the 70's and 80's he sold Scorpion and polaris, You are right chickenman, In 81 AC bought out scorpion and scorpion was selling all the sleds for AC. Then AC went bankrupt and took Scorpion down with them. If any of you remember the scorpions the were one hell of a sled. Their 440 stings and sidwinders were damm fast for being only 440. It was that aluminum body made them light and in turn very fast. Let me know if any one here has ever owned and scorpion sleds in the past. I put alot of miles on them machines>

 

XE, down here by bangor everywhere you look is an artic cat, ZR's galore! I myself want an xc800, but i rode my cousins wildcat 700 all last winter, and on every trail i met a handful of cats, a few ski-don'ts, and 1 or 2 indys. Bad news this week, the greenies finally won a battle. Unless repealed starting in 2003 no more snowmobiles in Yellowstone. Only snow coaches.

You know this is only the beginning, they will go after the other areas & then the national forests.

Out west there aren't many places to ride that are not federally owned.

Also, there is no way AC is #1 in sales. I have been attending 2 different snowmobile club meetings & it seems Polaris is #1 then Ski-doo & Yamaha & AC are at the bottom.

 

Im not sure if its true or not, but the way you guys are looking at this is very dumb( sorry if offend you) but it is. You live in one little section of the snowmobile population. you do not see the other places. Heck where I live its big time snowmobile country. you can see what areas have what dealers just by what the locals ride. One near by town you ride all you see is polaris. and sure enough they have a polaris dealer. The next town is all cat. So you cant just say that. maybe the town you live in doesnt have a cat dealer for a hundered miles. So why would you see alot of cats by you if the neeredt dealer is 100 miles away. well this is just my 2cents

Glad to here someone still remembers the Scorpion! I have a 1978 400 Range Whip. There was a Scorpion dealer near my uncles house, so we all owned Scorpions. My uncle had a 440 Stingray. That thing would fly. Our Range Whip still runs and still moves along pretty good. The handling is not all that great, but not too bad for a 22 year old machine. My brother and I beat the crap out of that thing. Amazing that it still runs. Is their any webstites or forums that I can get information on Scorpion sleds?

 

guess what guys scorpion is stil around. go to www.scorpionsleds.com they have one model it looks very cool but very expensive. and not many dealers either. it says its a 860cc class and has a 160hp, WOW
