Can I swap a 250 for a 400 in a 91 Trailboss!?
#1
First of all I'd like to say that Im impressed with this forum and Id like to say that www.polarisman.com SUCKS! Ive put post after post up there and NOBODY knows jack crap! Anyways, on to my question. Can I put a 400 2 stroke in a polaris trailboss 250 body with little modifications? What would be involved in doing something like that? What would I need to get, modify, etc... Would the 400 be a good engine or would I wanna use another Polaris engine? I hope I can get the answers to these questions and perhaps some advice on getting more out of my 250 2 stroke or cheap upgrades.

If you are considering all of that, first of all the 400's are liquid cooled, lots of work. You can buy a whole used machine for less than the Excedrin you will need. As you will read in here, the 250 is very workable, with quite a few options. Repair and or mod the 250, or buy a bigger, better machine.
Just my 2 cents, making an engine swap, is alot of work, time and$$$$$

I'd go for simple mods first. Pipe clutching etc. if you need more go to porting and a better carb. then if that's not enough for you then think about looking into a 400 bike. You can make your 250 faster than a stock 400.

I agree with the doctor. Besides the '91 is no prize in the chassis department, I had a '93 250 and a '95 400 (obviously.) Something newer would be all around better and a lot less Excedrin.

Well, its really just a matter of pride. I was shooting for something that would seem unobtrusive at the trail but turned heads when I wound it up. I was more or less just curious about the 400...what though is a bigger engine I COULD perhaps work with like the 300 or 325?

aww yes everybody loves a sleeper. I have a 92 mustang lx convertable that looks totally stock but it is heavily built and runs mid 12's on street tires with nitrous. I love beating up the camaro and vette guys. You could always get a 400 sport and put 250 stickers on it.
