Default 1st time brake job question?

I have a 98 Kodiak 4x4. Decided to change brake shoes. Got the drum off, put the new shoes on, now can't put the drum back on. I used a screwdriver to turn the screw on top of the master cylinder. One shoe fits inside the drum but the bottom one won't' The screw turning won't work. How can I "shrink" the shoe so the drum will go over it?

im not sure if your bike is mechanical or hydrolic brakes but if its mech. than you need to let your adjuster all the way out. when your pads wear you have to push the pads out a little to make up for that and when you put new pads on the pads will hit the drum. hope this helps
