Default Snowmobile on sand

Hey guys you might think im nuts but do you think its possibile for a snowmobile to ride on sand?

I imagine it would work great with some modified skis. the snow ski might bite too much and be hard to turn in the heavy sand. if u got it to handle good there wouldnt be a quad or bike that could touch it no matter what they had done!!! climbin hills would be easy compared to bikes or wheelers too.

Its been done but it pretty much destroys the skis and track. Its sand you know. Most who do it just do hillclimbs.

I think that with a bit of work and $$ you could make it into a real nice dune machine. Figure out how to fix the ski and track problem, and protect the rest that needs it from the sand. That would be pretty cool indeed!

ive seen it where they remove the skis and put tires and they hauled a$$

But unless you're running a fan cooled sled (and then what's the point), how do you stop it from overheating within 5 minutes? Do you just run one quick pass up the hill and then shut it down for 1/2 an hour?

Yep . I guess a few newer sleds are coming with radiator cooling systems instead of the tunnel tube setups.

I don't think I would ride any machine in sand. It just eats up everything.
