lt80 cracked case rear bolt holders now what?
#1
Has anyone tried to repair the bolt holders at the rear of an lt80 after breaking them off? I have a Moore modified motor with case reinforcements and the reinforcements held up well, but the two left-side threaded bolt holders and both long bolt carries have cracked off. I was considering grinding off all the damage and having a welder attach metal tubes to replace the long-bolt carriers and welding on two new small flanges and tapping new threads into them. Has anyone tried this? We've got a big race coming up this Sunday and I'm hopefull that this is a viable quick fix.

I've seen one set fixxed and it was close to what you are explaining.
Good luck.

i have the same problem on my 99. When this happend to you guys did your axel get pulled to the right side making the rear end become un-squar, and the right rear tire rub on the frame? < this is what mine does now.

The problem area is where the axle housing mounting brackets attach to the engine case. I recently broke a second case and got new bolt holders welded onto the damaged casing. I'm hoping it will hold up under hard mx riding. My kid tested it out on our track taking a 30ft jump 4 times and it held. I don't want him doing the 180 degree power slide turn on hard pack for fear of breaking it again. LT80 Jack recommends smooth turn riding to avoid this and I agree. However, they always make that first holeshot turn a 180. Thanks to LT80, my kid has reached that turn in the lead 8 out of 9 times but with a dozen other riders close on his heels shooting inside and outside (to try to get around him) he's forced to do the full-throttle - rear brake slam- power slide tight inside to hold that lead. All the other turns can be taken smoothly.
