Polaris Explorer 4x4 (250cc)
#1
Considering buying an Explorer 4x4 but was seeking feedback from current owners (Performance, maintenance, steering ease, 2-cycle engine problems, etc.). As an alternative, also considering the Artic Cat 250 4x4 but wanted the auto tranny. Feedback and suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had one i loved it, ran great , plenty of power from the 250 2 stroke which is one of the most reliable 2 stroke motors made. Easiest steering Polaris I ever drove. Take good care of the rear chain is my only advice other than that it was neck and neck with a stock 1996 425 magnum as speed went, he could not beat me i could not beat him, i got close to 50 out of it. It weighs the same as a 300 4x4 from Honda but it feels lighter, has way more power and has allot better suspension. ( I owned both so I am able to compare)As fo the AC I cannot comment having never seen the 250. I did not like the smaller tires ,23 inch on the front but that was me. It muds great. I traded it on an SP , my girl friend said she did not want her own, so i bought the SP to carry us both, I thought with two people on the 250 Xplorer it was to much for it. but of course now she wants her own. I should have just bought another one she won't drive the SP but loved to drive the 250 Xplorer. Women! I want her ot take the SP so i can get a Scrambler. Not happening.

We own 2 250 Explorers and think they are excellent. Handles good, plenty of power for a 250, suspension works well, turns fairly easy. You will surprise some people out there with their preformance if you decide to get one. They will run with the bigger machines in the woods. We get our 2 quads up to around 45 mph. Hope this helps.

Hi Shadetree
I also have the xplorer250,it steers very easy,it has been a very reliable machine for me,and i have put it through quite a bit in the last few months..In terms of power it the 250 has quite a bit of torque and will hold its on with several of the mid size cc 4 stroke bikes in the woods and on straight aways
45 to 50 is a very good estimate of its top speed..Im not the most experienced of the riders that post here but i have been very please with its overall performace..
Thx

I am not sure if the motor is the same basic design or not. I can say for a 250 these machines really haul. Ours will run around 45 mph which is respectable. They are a great deal for the money spent.

i picked up my 2000 in june and have been riding almost every weekend since. it has plenty of power and muds like a champ.. we ride in mostly tight trails with lots of rocks. it scoots up over everthing..i would say speed to be about 45-50 but its hard to tell without a speedo..(no one i ride with has one either).. it is my first machine but i love it... take care
