AC 250 4x4 Feedback
#1
I know the new 250 4x4 has only been out a short time but any feedback would be appreciated. I'm in the market for a 250 class for my son (currently on a Honda 90 TRX). Realize this is quite a step up but wanted something he could continue to grow into (also hope to keep my wife off of my 500 Sportsman). The power of the 250 4-stroke concerns me. As an alternative, I'm considering a Polaris Explorer 4x4 (250cc).
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think that unless you have a big son you might want to look at something alittle smaller like a Recon or 250ex.
The Arctic Cat 250 is the same size physically as a 500.
As for power the 250 has it, but speed is it's BIG down fall. It will never keep up with your 500 in the wide open trails. If you spend alot of your rideing in open trails get the 250 polaris. If you spend alot of time in low range in rought train get the Arctic Cat.(thats for your wife and maybe ur son if he's big enough).

I have to agree with boner. But you have to remember. the ac 250 is basically identical to the 300ac. if you like breaking trails or mudding the ac is it. of course it wont have the speed as the polaris. but I believe it has alot better suspension. then the polaris (my opinion)it would be alot like your sp with the rear independent rear suspension. If you ride alot of flat terrain at higher speeds the polaris is the way but if you ride more techniacl section the cat is the way

Being the owner of both the AC 300 4x4 and the xplorer 250 4x4 I hope to make this a little easier for you if the weight of your child and wife is not over say 175 lbs a piece and they dont plan on riding double then I'd say go with the Cat however dont under estimate the power of the 250 polaris it will give your sportsman a run for its money the 250 polaris is a 2 stroke and is very peppy maybe even to much for your son going from a 90cc 4 stroke to a 250cc 2 stroke. Remember 2 stroke vrs 4 stroke displacement can be decieving, that 250 is probly more like a 350 to 400 fourstroke in the speed.I love my xplorer however like boner and girthy said on a rocky mountain I'll take my cat anyday with my IRS.hope this helps take it easy.
