Predator 90 Kickstart Jammed Up
#3
.
On the Pred-90, the kick starter gears jam because of "too much" mud / crud and water that gets into the CVT system. For a picture of the nice vent holes they installed on the side of a Pred-90, surf: http://community.webshots.com/photo/...43251365ipkLSY
To fix, remove the side cover, remove the filter cover (may have to paint the filter cover if too rust), wash the insides out really good (garden hose spray works best), lay mini on the side to drain the water, let dry 24+ hours, then lube up the kick starter gears. For me, I like using "chain wax" oil spray on the gears. This wax helps repel future mud / crud & water.
Hope this helps...

Thanks for the replies and as a result of about two hours this morning I managed to take the side cover off and much to my surprise nothing was wrong. I did however take the spark plug out and about a gallon of water came out so that would explain why the engine wouldn't turn over. Not to sound like too much of a moron but last week I was trying to figure out how to keep the front end as high as possible when going thru water. I went to Walmart and bought a basketball, deflated it, and inflated it inside the front bumper rack. For good measure I "submerged" it and the result was a cylinder full of algae and water. I managed to drain it, let it dry, and luckily it started. Now, for all the other people out there that want to test the "floatability" of a machine like this, take it from one who knows. "Think before you sink"! Thanks for the replies fellas and if I pull anymore boner moves I'll be sure and post them on here.

For a 233 lb mini, a basket ball doesn't work very well. Besides that, its back wheels won't get much traction in the deep water. For an idea you may want to clone on your Pred-90, surf: http://community.webshots.com/photo/...87872243foNipQ
For him, it seems to work fine... Although, I wonder how his ATV will behave if hit with a wake. Especially in the deep water. LOL!!!!

It takes a man to admit something like this. Thanks for the laugh. Run a little extra oil (more rust inhibiter) in your fuel to help get all moisture out of case. We run snowmachines on lakes in the summer for fun and sometimes they sink also.

Thanks for the tip. It's never a dull moment here with the "toys". Seems we run into almost any kind of problem with the quads. I'm almost scared to buy a couple of snow machines this year. Thanks again.

Ya, I had my Scrambler 50 jam up on me like this, but it was from the kids washing it and holding the hose in the tailpipe for a couple mins.
